Mac & Cheese as a side?

it isn’t Kraft Dinner here, i get that. no biggie, i’ll get over that, but is it just a Southern Thing that almost every restaurant, including some fast food places have Mac & Cheese as a side dish?

I’m not complaining, just wondering.
