Who sells trees door-to-door?

Sitting upstairs watching some football on a saturday afternoon. Doorbell rings. not expecting anyone. go downstairs to the front door. 

Good afternoon sir, says the gentleman on my front door step.
Hello? I say questioningly

We’re in the neigbourhood putting in some trees for a neighbour and were wondering if you might be interested in some too.

No thank you, I respond.

and that was that, back to the game.

Seriously, is this a southern thing where you have door to door tree sales people?
